Alaska Vacations

When to plan a vacation to Alaska?
When is the best time to go to Alaska to see the aurora borealis, or northern lights, polar? which would the best place to see them?
In mid-September to mid-March. As far north as you can go, at least as far north as Fairbanks. Far the lights of the city. Car and away from the city to take their pictures, or stay in a place like Cleary Fox or the Summit or Chena Hot Springs. Look at the records of time spent www.wunderground.com in Fairbanks or wherever you decide to go, to choose the time of year with the best chances of clear weather. March and September are generally good. Watch the aurora in the night, approximately 10 pm-02 am They come and go, so keep looking. Dress warmly. The solar cycle is low at the moment. You can see aurora forecast on the website of the University Of Alaska Geophysical Institute. For good tips on how to photograph the aurora, see the website of Alaska Photographer Patrick Endres. He is from Fairbanks.
